I need to get on bcp. but heard the pills take a month to work. which form of bc works immediately or within a week?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Birth control timing: The only forms of birth control that work immediately are IUDs, such as Paragard (copper T) and Mirena, (levonorgestrel) and condoms. IUDs have greater effectiveness in normal use but obviously takes at least one office visit to place (and maybe a second visit for initial consult). Condoms are the normal backup method when waiting for the pill to start working.
