A member asked:

What is the difference between atherosclerosis and ischemia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cause and effect: Atherosclerosis is a process where plaque builds up in arteries due to a variety of factors. When the plaque build up is extensive enough it can restrict blood flow and cause ischemia. Ischemia, which occurs when blood flow is not sufficient to meet the need for blood may result from extensive atherosclerosis. however it is important to note that atherosclerosis usually does not result in ischemia
