How is a venous clot treated if the body isn't trying to break it down (i.e., negative d-dimer)?

Depends: If the clot is in a superficial vein, it can be left alone. Deep vein thrombosis should be treated with an anticoagulant, blood thinner. It is not a do-it-yourself issue and if you have any doubt, please see your doctor.
