Stretch marks: Hyperpigmentation is simply a sign of inflammation. In the setting of rapid weight gain that may be associated with pregnancy or simply weight gain, the dermis of the skin is injured. Injury is associated with inflammation. This causes cells in the skin to deposit melanin, leading to darkening of stretch marks. With time, the color will fade. It may take 6-12 months.
