Copper-T IUD: this IUD is associated with irregular bleeding which can be spotting or heavier than normal periods. this is not bad unless bleeding is so heavy that it leads to anemia.

Copper IUD: Breakthrough bleeding within the first 6 months of an IUD insertion is very common and expected. Typically it will resolve in the 3-6 month time frame. If bleeding is excessively heavy or accompanied by increasing pain, you need to consult your OB GYN.
