See GYN: Abnormal periods can occur due to stress, infection, medication, hormone changes. If this period goes on longer than another couple days you should consult your GYN

Abnormal : heavy uterine bleeding can be a result of clotting abnormalities, incomplete shedding last several months due to anovulatory cycles, fibroids and other structural abnormalities (tumors). U should see your gynecologist
