GetToTheCoreOfTheSor: Genital sores can be caused by more than just Herpes!!I could list them, but many are rather obscure and are dealt with by specialists like rheumatologists. If I had persistent or recurring genital ulcers or blisters and I tested negative for the common things,I'd ask for a referral to a specialist if the doctor I was seeing was stymied. No big rush, unless they hurt a lot or you feel generally funky

Tricky: dermatologic conditions are difficult when not seen. I can say that many herpes tests are not very good. The antibody test, and growing the virus could miss a large percent of the people with the virus. Looking for the particular viral DNA or protein are much better tests, but still have to get the right time when the virus is popping out or the test is negative (and sore lasts longer than virus)
