Multiple causes.: One who has an intermittent episode such as this should see ones physician ASAP for a comprehensive history, physical exam, and appropriate testing. Possible causes include hypertension, hyperthyroidism, heart valve problems and, less commonly, relatively rare tumors which secrete substances which can cause the symptoms.
