NSAID: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) usually treat cramps very well. These include ibuprofen (Advil) and naproxen (Aleve), both in prescription strength and over-the-counter. Prescription strength NSAID are often required for severe cramps eg. Ibuprofen 600-800 mg up to 3x/day, or Naproxen 500 mg up to 3x/day. Taking one of theses medications 2 days prior to menses can be very helpful.
