A member asked:

Can an infusion port remain implanted for years when there is a diagnosis of cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Port whichis buried subcutaneously can remain for many yers. If there is a possibility that with Ca the port may need to be used again, it can be flushed periodically with heparin. This way the port is always available for use and should only be removed if there is no possibility it will be needed in the future.
