It could: Whenever you exercise your muscle loose oxygen and produce lactic acid. This does result in cramping of muscles. Electrolyte imbalance cause this so energy drinks do help. However, if you are really concerned follow up with you doctor.

Nerve pressure: Possible causes include pressure on the nerves from muscles or spinal discs. There are neurologic conditions that can cause it as well as metabolic ones. Need to see a doctor.
