Weight loss: weight-loss is not a normal symptom of IBS. If you have persistent unexpected weight loss, you should discuss this with your doctor. Good luck.

IBS: IBS generally does not cause weight loss and this is one of the clues we use to distinguish it from inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, malignancy, other diarrhea casesetc. Obviously if a patient with IBS purposely withholds calories in an effort to control symptoms, weight loss will occur. If you have otherwise unintended weight loss you should be evaluated by your physician for diagnosis
