What is the evidence for intramedullary reaming when undergoing tibial fracture surgery ?

Fantastic question: The SPRINT trial in 2008 demonstrated better outcomes of closed tibial shaft fractures with intramedullary reaming. In regards to open tibial shaft fractures they found no difference when reaming or not reaming the intramedullary canal.
