A 34-year-old member asked:
After hernia surgery fails what are my options?

Surgery: Unfortunately, there are not too many options for treatment of hernias other than surgery. Hernia recurrences are the most common complication after hernia surgery. While the second operation may be more complex, there have been many innovations developed over the last decade that may not have been available at the time of the first hernia surgery.

A 31-year-old member asked:
Are there things I can do to speed up my recovery after hernia surgery?

Slowly increase: Gradually increase your activity with your doctor's approval. Walking and gradual light exercises that do not strain the area that had surgery can be helpful. Mostly it takes time, about 4 to 6 weeks, for full recovery depending on the type of surgery performed.

What are the long-term effects of a hernia surgery?

Dr. Mark Hoepfner answered

Usually none: Once a hernia surgery site has fully healed, then there are usually no "long-term effects." usually one can return to a full and normally active lifestyle without any restrictions or problems.

A 29-year-old member asked:
What is the normal course of recovery after a hernia surgery?
3 doctor answers • 7 doctors weighed in

Dr. Jon Krook answered
General Surgery 24 years experience
Depends: It depends on what type of hernia it was, how big it was, and how extensive the surgery was. If it was an operation on a recurrent hernia, those are usually bigger surgeries. In general, you should be able to do your usual activities in a day or two. Most light duty jobs could be back as soon as a week. Lifting restrictions are surgeon dependent.
