A member asked:

How do you know when a skin graft from a chemical burn is going to be required? how can you tell if chemical burn is healing/accident 1st of nov.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Clinical judgement: Any burn, thermal, chemical or electrical has degrees depending on depth of involvement. In simplest terms, 1st degree (superficial) will heal rapidly (7-10 days), 2nd degree (into dermis) can heal without scarring (10-14 days) if uncomplicated, 3rd-4th degree (deepest) usually grafting is needed. If your burn is 3 months old and not yet healed, see a plastic surgeon for advice.
