A member asked:

What causes me to sneeze out food?

Food: This should only happen when you are eating. When you sneeze air is pushed out through your nose and the mouth is closed and this sends food material in the back of your mouth out through your nose. If this happens and you have not been eating then please see your health care provider.

Several reasons: You may have very significant reflux disease, where food is coming all the way up into the back of your nose from your stomach. But it could also be related to vevelopharyngeal insufficiency, where the back of your nose isn't "sealed off" when you swallow, such that some food may "sneak" into the nasopharynx instead of going into your food pipe.
