Flu: The H1N1 strain cannot be differentiated on clinical grounds from regular influenza and will behave as influenza. Vaccination remains the best known prevention. Alternatively, avoiding contact with affected individuals may help in prevention. Once exposure is suspected prophylactic treatment is recommended.

Flu: H1N1 is a strain of the flu. Proper hand washing can somewhat help but very contagious via respiratory droplets. The vaccine can prevent it although the vaccine this year so far hasn't had great coverage, but still important to get. Flu and cold can be similar but flu will leave you more achy and likely to have a fever.
