Normal: The spine is naturally curved and the change from a lordotic "c" shape in the neck to a kyphotic "d" in the mid back and back to a "c" shape in the low back leads to this impression.

Proper posture: A properly balanced spine keeps the head centered over the pelvis as viewed from both the front and the side. It is normal to have the so called "dents" as previously explained. Best way to maintain "perfect" posture is practice with a book on your head. Balance the book, and your head is balanced. Now, remember this position. The curves that exist when balanced are your normal curves.
