Can Occur: Oral Contraceptive pills (OCPs) may reduce the risk of new ovarian cysts, however they do not decrease the size of current cysts. I would continue OCPs or other hormonal contraceptive (ie, ring, DMPA) to help reduce the risk of recurrence. However, if you have a large persistent symptomatic cyst, you may need to have it aspirated or removed surgically. Ibuprofen or naproxen can reduce cyst pain.
