Sugar and eyesight: Eating too much sugar will not necessarily affect eyesight unless the patient is pre-diabetic or already is a diabetic. In those cases it may swell the lens of the eye causing the eye to be near-sighted. In a diabetic, uncontrolled sugar intake can also lead to abnormal blood vessels in the retina which can cause significant visual problems.
