Gross hematuria : Visible blood in the urine is called gross hematuria and it always needs to be investigated. Your husband is young and it is unlikely he will have a serious pathology but it is better to be safe than sorry. He needs either Ultrasound or preferably CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis, urine cytology, and cystoscopy( scoping of the bladder)
