Plan ahead: Your recurrence risk is quoted as 4% by most references. There is some data supporting use of folate (folic acid) in addition to balanced nutrition in the time leading up to and during pregnancy to reduce risk.Please discuss this with your OB or pcp as you begin the process.

Folic acid: To prevent anencephaly and spina bifida it has been recommended that women start taking folic acid before considering undertaking a pregnancy. speak to your OBGYN about this.
