A member asked:

Can iron deficiency anemia cause light/clay colored stools. 6 weeks pregnant, switched prenatal to iron free and since have had clay colored stools.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not likely: Did you consult your doctor before switching the medication? It is important to take iron. Iron deficiency does not cause clay colored stools. Please consult your doctor for both issues, i.e, clay colored stools and about continuing to take iron.
