Seek evaluation: 2009 study from u of az & u of md: activity in brain region that regulates emotional reactions (anterior cingulate cortex, acc) helps to explain how emotional insult triggers a biological cascade. During a stressful experience, acc may respond by increasing activity of vagus nerve—connecting brain to neck, chest & abdomen. Vagus stimulayion may cause pain & nausea.
