Very uncommon: The incidence of incompetent cervix is well less than 1%. When suspected, the norm is for serial trans-vaginal ultrasound measurements of the cervix, usually starting at about 10 or 12 weeks of pregnancy. If incompetent cervix is detected, then a cerclage can be considered.
