Normal.: Although irregular periods are NOT normal, it is quite expected that if you have oligomenorrhea (irregular/infrequent menses, you will bleed heavier and longer when you do have a bleed, especially after 4 months. Discuss OCP with your doctor to either stop menses completely or to regulate.
