Try pain med: 2nd-degree (partial-thickness) burns are painful; the skin nerves are still present and raw from the open wound. As the wound heals, which 2nd-degree b urns do with good wound care & good nutrition, the pain should lessen & ultimately disappear. When you're hurting, or before you go to bed, take a dose of pain medicine, simple otc ones like Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen or a stronger prescription med.

Depth & healing: It depends on the type of burn and the depth. Topical antibiotic over the counter creams if not allergic, may be all that is required. If deeper medical attention should be obtained. Spasms may be a sign if electrolyte imbalance or secondary to pain. Topical relief with anesthetics may be beneficial. On occasion calcium or electrolytes may need to be evaluated but unlikely causes. Valium may help.
