The short answer: Currently, it is believed that they are caused by a combination of genetic predisposition and social, environmental factors and events. Usually a person predisposed to anxiety and depression will have difficulties adjusting to change and will not be emotionally resilient. That means can not recover quickly after a sad or challenging event. Tx: learn how to better cope, with/ without medication.
