A member asked:

What do your bilirubin levels in the blood indicate about your health?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nothing if normal: If indirect bilirubin is up, one might be breaking down red cells fast, or Gilbert's is a mild illness in which jaundice is a bit worse if you miss a few meals. If direct bilirubin is up, bile's blocked physically or perhaps by meds or a metabolic kink. If both are up, perhaps the liver cells have been damaged. Variations within the healthy range are meaningless.
