Support/protection: There are a number of reasons a splint can be helpful. It can provide support, it can protect an area from injury, and it can reduce the range of motion to a safe range. The down side is they can sometimes cause stiffness, atrophy, and be difficult to work in. See your doctor to decide if one is right for you.
