The muscular: dystrophies (MD) are a group of > 30 genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness and degeneration of muscles. Age of onset, distribution & extent of skeletal muscle weakness, rate of progression, cardiac & smooth muscle involvement & pattern of inheritance differ.
