Family history ?: Prevalence of inheritable disorders in the general population is meaningless in the face of a positive family history. Some day, newborn screening will include genomes along with hearing & inborn errors of metabolism. Obtain a 3-generation family history, with results of genetic testing in all affected family members & seek pre-pregnancy genetic counseling in order to make an informed decision.
