Yes: The central and peripheral nervous system can be infected directly as in meningitis, encephalitis and neuritis. Many nervous system, esp CNS diseases involve excess or deficiencies in various neurotransmitters, e.g. Parkinson's (low dopamine), depression (low serotonin or norepinephrine), psychosis (excess dopamine). Also there are degenerative diseases of the nervous system, e.g. Alzheimer's.
