A member asked:

What does it mean if you have an abnormal red blood cell count?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: It depends on the type of abnormality. Low counts, i.e., anemia may be due to nutritional deficiency, bleeding, hemolysis etc. High counts may be due to living at high altitude, heart and lung disease and tumors of red cell producing cells, e.g., polycythemia vera.
