A member asked:

Is it easier for a doctor to tell that someone has a viral infection when the virus is in the lytic cycle?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Why do you ask?: The "lytic" and "lysogenic" cycles are old observations about phages killing cells in tissue culture. This isn't even something we talk about in clinical medicine. If someone has given you the impression that human disease involves cycling between these two mechanisms of viral reproduction, they've misled you and I'm sorry. I hope this helps.
