Scratching Causes: Scabies is caused by a mite which burrows into the skin resulting in a very itchy rash; spreads person to person. Does not typically cause scarring however vigorous scratching of the skin can lead to scarring and secondary infections. It is treated with topical medications which kill the mite however itching can persist up to a month later. Steroid creams can provide relief until itching subsides.
