A member asked:

If positive for herpes antibodies can you tell if antibodies are recent or past?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If IgM-type is pos.: Herpes antibodies checked by the lab are sometimes listed as IgM or IgG antibodies. If IgM-type antibodies are positive, that means a recent infection. If IgM-type antibodies are negative, but the IgG-type are positive, that means a past infection... but we can't tell how long ago "past" is, because it varies among different people.
