What is a fetal pole?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Early embryo body: Its the embryo body usually seen as a small dot next to a small circle, the yolk sac, during earliest stages of pregnancy. The first structure visible is the yolk sac. The fetal pole is then seen as a small bump on the yolk sack wall. If you think of a chicken's egg, it is the small white thickening next to the yolk that develops into the chicken. The yolk sac dissapears as the embryo grows.
