Sudden trauma: A sudden abrupt trauma to a joint can instantly cause an inflammatory response to include swelling. If is is painful you may want to get seen.

Popping": is called SUBLUXATION! It indicates partial DISLOCATION. STOP DOING IT! You have injured the tendons which control your thumb's motion and strength for GRASPING! If your symptoms persist...see a HAND SPECIALIST! Hope this helps! Dr Z
