Is nicotine and cotonine present in the system of someone that is surrounded my secondhand smoke? and is it enough to register on a cotonine test?

Yes: There have been studies looking at urine cotinine levels in children exposed to second hand smoke which clearly show it is in their system. Stay away from first or second hand smoke!

Generally no: the "set-points' of most drug tests are put where the data indicate that casual second-hand exposure (like riding in a car with someone smoking), or exposure to clothing, furniture etc with cigarette smoke residue, will NOT show up. If highly sensitive tests are used, small amounts of cotonine may show up, but most tests are geared to 50 ng/ml, which should not give positive results from exposure.
