Usually infection: Dryness is a possibility and is treated with saline spray to cleanse followed by saline gel or sesame oil. Sometimes the hair follicles or lining inside the nostril get infected which can cause painful cracks or pimples. This usually responds to twice daily application of a small amount of otc Bacitracin ointment just inside the nostril. Avoid inhaling any petrolatum ointment as lung damage may.
