Boil: The most effective treatment for boil is drainage. Antibiotic does not add much in most of circumstances.

Standard care: If the pus is released, many abscesses (/boils) will resolve spontaneously with local wound care (warm compresses / topical antibiotics / dressing changes). Should improve for first ~48 hours no matter what--if starts to get redder / hotter / more painful after that, needs recheck and likely oral antibiotics.
