Losing weight: Your body requires a certain amount of caloric intake to survive, but anything extra is stored as fat. Track your food so you know exactly what you're eating (calories, protein, fat, etc) and start cutting out the extra. Adding exercise means you can eat more and not gain weight, or you can lose weight faster. You have to eat less than you burn in order to lose weight, period.

No: To lose wt you must burn 3600 calories per pound. You should not eat less than 800-1000 calories per day but the amount you burn thru exercise is somewhat limitless.
