The location clues: There are different kinds of foot arthritis. The base of the large toe is chacteristically osteoarthritis but is the most common site of gout attacks. Arthritis isinflammation of the joint. The foot has many joints, but the joint or joints involved can be a clue by their location of what kind of arthritis. This can be a diagnostic clue.

Pain,swelling,stiff: Foot arthritis is usually associated with stiffness and pain and may be accompanied by swelling when it flares. The level of pain and disability depends on the location in the foot.
