Lymph node: Lymph nodes may occasionally appear behind the ear when there is infection in the ear canal, upper part of the external ear (pinna), or the scalp above & behind the ear (temporo-parietal). If u use q-tips in the ear, u may have developed "swimmer's ear" an infxn of the ear canal. There r otc preps for treating this condition, or u can see pcp for exam & treatment.

Perhaps a lymph node: Sometimes you may get an infection and the lymph nodes that lie behind the ear (mastoid nodes) drain the area in the ear called the mastoid. A n inner ear infection as an example can lead to this or sometimes they just show up. I would say that you should be on an oral antibiotic and see how you do. If the headaches continue or the node does not shrink, go to the doctor.
