Side effects: Contact your gynecologist or the doctor who prescribed the bc pills. Many medications have side effects. Often, a subtle change can alleviate those side effects while maintaining the intended treatment.

Ask your doctor: Acne is not a side effect of combined oral hormonal contraceptives. But some types are better at combating acne than others. I do not know which type you are using now or which you were using then, but you can consult with your doctor about this problem.

Acne: I would suggest going back to the pill you did well on for 9 years. Most pills will help decrease acne over time, but it's not unusual to get an outbreak when you first start a new ocp.
