A member asked:

How do doctors check teenagers for ibs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Same as for adults: Typically the workup for ibs in a teenager is the same as for adults with a few exceptions. Your doctor may check for other intestinal disorders that are unique to children and teenagers before diagnosing someone with ibs. The workup may include blood work and some imaging studies and possibly a referral to a intestinal specialist-- a gastroenterologist.
