Hard to say. : A miscarriage wouldn't normally be caused by the pill, and spotting is a common side effect of starting a pill in the first month that someone is on it. It may have been something called a chemical pregnancy (a very early pregnancy, that ended before it had progressed to a stage where an embryo was identifiable, - this happens not uncommonly.
