Is it just a cyst because my left armpit (where the lump is) hurts?

Might be: Cysts usually do not hurt unless inflamed. Women shave area & sometimes improperly with straight razor that causes nicks for bacteria to climb through & develop infected sweat glands, called hiradenitis, which can be devastating. Use of a used razor is discouraged & use of another person's razor is frought with concern for infection. A princess electric type of razor is advised.
