Shrink vs remove: External hemorrhoids hurt when inflamed. Creams, ointments can help with flareups as can avoiding constipation by keeping your fluid and fiber up and dropping weight if obese. Still, these things do not remove the hemorrhoid. If a continuing problem or if acutely painful (thrombosed) then excision with surgery is the answer. This can be done as an outpatient. Good luck. Feel better soon.
